Reunion

I know I've got a backlog on the Alaska stories, which I'll get back to later.

At the moment, I'm situated in Seattle, which they usually call the gateway to Alaska. All of the Klondlike Gold Rush has also shared that title to Seattle.

Seattle is a vibrant city with so much happening around. The beauty of it is the proximity to Vancouver and you get to book cheap flights to Alaska from here. I saved $300 booking my flight to Fairbanks from Seattle compared to Vancouver.

I was so excited catching up with Misty. It was a crazy thought that I was actually on the northern hemisphere, away from home and catching up with her after so many years.

Years ago Beth and I went on a trip to Egypt. 9 days with an Intrepid tour. Our guide was Mohammed and we were to share those days with 2 girls traveling by themselves, names, Misty and Shaz.

Those days were amazing, all 4 girls, talking, exploring, sharing stories, views...under the heat of the sun on the sands of Egypt. It was a bonding that flickered a good friendship across the miles and even through the years.

I saw Misty across the street waving at me, so cute in her pink stripe top and her baby bump. She's scheduled for the baby on the 20th of May... 6 weeks to go.

It was so great to be updating each other while on the road. Misty took me to places that day where without a car it would have been a little bit challenging. Her past as a traveler made her understand what other travelers go through.

I asked what her stories were after we all went our separate ways after the Egypt trip. It was so cute to hear
her love story too and how things unfolded when she came back home. Of course I updated her about Beth too and everything after those sessions when we talked about guys and love :)

Her baby's name will be Penny... short for Penelope. Her baby shower scheduled for this coming Saturday. It was a good feeling to also see their usual pub quiz happening in their local pub, and the group of close friends she had. A town can always have its charm also if family and friends are all close by. We also shared discussions about that.

After the Egypt trip I recall us four making this agreement to have a reunion... somewhere.... sometime...I hope soon it'll happen. :) It's an amazing feeling to know that I have a friend here in Seattle who I can easily talk to and share stories with.

I hugged Misty goodbye as she dropped me and Nick off at the corner of 2nd Ave and Pike. She'll be a Mommy soon.....I can imagine all of the new stories she'll have the next time our paths meet again :)

  1. Awww Jowe! It was so wonderful to see you and learn that the connection we all formed in Egypt wasn't just particular to that time or place. It immediately felt comfortable and as if I had seen you regularly over the past five years. You have a special power to connect with people, and you're going to have a great time on the rest of your trip. Thank you for visiting -- I'm excited to read about the adventures ahead!
